PASSPORT ISSUE PROCEDURE
Following the implementation of Law 3103/2003 since 1.1.2006, new high security passports are issued exclusively by Greek Police
The old type of passports issued by Greek Prefectures and Consular Authorities are no longer valid after 31.12.2006, of the validity date written on them
Since 1.1.2007 only the new passports, issued by the Passport Directory of Greek Police are valid
Validity and fees of new passports:
The passports which have been issued by Greek Police from 1.1.2006 until 25.8.2006 are valid until their expiry date. Holders of those passports, issued by Greek Police from 1.1.2006 until 25.8.2006 can, if they wish so, ask their replacement by new e-passports (which embody a microchip) resubmitting all necessary documents and paying only for the cost of the passport booklet £30,15(euro 45).
Greeks living abroad can also apply to the competent police authorities in Greece of their temporary residence (for more information please check the website of the Ministry for Public Order www.ydt.gr.
The delivery day of the passports depends exclusively on the processing time of their applications by Greek Police and can range indicatively from 3 to 5 weeks from the day of the application.
SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS
IN ORDER TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION THE ACTUAL PRESENCE OF THE APPLICANT IS NECESSARY
AN APPLICATION CAN ONLY BE ACCEPTED IF ALL SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS ARE SUBMITTED
THE SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS ON BEHALF OF MINORS ARE SUBMITTED BY THEIR PARENTS OR THE PERSONS WHO HAVE THE PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITY. THE PRESENCE OF THE MINOR IS NEEDED AT ALL CASES. IF ONLY ONE PARENT IS PRESENT, THE WRITTEN CONSENT OF THE OTHER IS NECESSARY. THE TRUTH OF THE SIGNATURE OF THE PARENT SHOULD BE VALIDATED BY A COMPETENT AUTHORITY (GREEK CONSULAR AUTHORITIES OR OTHER COMPETENT GREEK AUTHORITY)
LIST OF SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS – ADULTS’ PASSPORTS
THE ISSUE DATE OF THE DOCUMENTS CAN NOT BE MORE THAN 6 MONTHS OLDER THAN THE DATE OF THEIR SUBMISSION
If the applicant does not hold Greek ID card or the ID card has been damaged or annulled, then an original certificate of registration in a Borough in Greece must be submitted (Please note that the issue date of the certificate can not be more than six months older from the day of the application). ONLY FOR MALE 19-45 YEARS OLD
- For those who have served their military service or those whose service is deferred it is not necessary to submit any documents
- For those who have been called but failed to present and are living abroad (ανυπότακτοι εξωτερικού «anypotaktoi exoterikou») an original certificate from the competent military office in Greece is necessary (Please note that the issue date of the certificate can not be more than six months older from the day of the application).

Declaration (is filled in the Consulate General) where the applicant declares:
PASSPORT COLLECTION
DAILY 10:00 – 13:00
Passports are collected by the applicant himself/herself or the parent (for minors) or by a dully authorized person (which should produce an ID card or passport) holding an authorization granted by the applicant and dully validated for the thruth of its signature by a Greek Consulate or any other competent Greek Authority
LOSS – THEFT OF PASSPORT
In case of loss or theft of his/her passport in the UK, the holder must report the incident as soon as possible to the closest UK police authority obtaining confirmation of his/her report (e.g. crime reference number). Furthermore he/she must fill a statement at the Consulate (Law 1599/1986) mentioning the circumstances under which the passport has been lost or stolen. A similar procedure must be followed if the passport is re-found.
The Consulate General curries out an investigation for the circumstances of loss or theft of the passport which can last up to 3 moths from the date of the declaration in the Consulate General. In case of a second declaration of a loss or theft the investigation can last up to a year depending on the case. As long as the investigation is in process no new passport is issued
PLEASE NOTE: In case of a loss/theft the submission of an application is only possible after at least 45 days from the day of the declaration of the loss/theft at the Consulate General.
EMERGENCY TRAVEL DOCUMENTS
ARE ISSUED ONLY TO RETURN TO GREECE OF THE COUNTRY OF PERMANENT RESIDENCE
For the issue of an emergency travel document, in case that the old passport has expired the following documents are necessary:
- Application (submitted IN PERSON in the Consulate General)
- 2 Photographs
- ID card issued after 1.6.1960 or certificate of registration in a Greek Borouth.
If the travel document is issued due to loss/theft of a passport apart from the above mentioned documents are also necessary:
-To report the loss/theft to a UK Police authority
- Statement filled at the Consulate General concerning the circumstances of the loss/theft of the passport

- It must be a recent color photograph, not more than a month old.
- The dimensions are 40mm X 60mm. It must have been chemically developed on high quality photographic paper and not on a common paper using common printers.
- The frontal type of picture must be used for the photograph. The rotation of the head must be less than +/- 5 degrees from the center to any direction (up, down, left or right).
- Shoulders must be aligned in the picture.
- The expression must be neutral (no smile), with both eyes open and the mouth shut.
- The individual must stand alone without showing the back of chairs, toys or other individuals.
- The background must be uniform or with uniform colouring with mild brightness variations to one direction only. The background must be of a light color, preferably of a white or pale grey shade (up to 5%).
- The contour of the head and background must be clearly visible in the entire object. No shades may appear on the face. No dark shades may appear in the eyes due to the eyebrows. The iris and the apple of the eyes must be clearly visible.
- The entire area of the face must be clearly visible with no shades. In case of hats, veils or kerchiefs of any kind, these must be removed. In case they cannot be removed for religious purposes, they must not hide the features of the face and they must not create any shade whatsoever. If the individual wears spectacles, s/he must also wear them for the picture. Spectacles must be clean and transparent in order for the iris and apple of the eyes to be clearly visible.
- Lighting of the individual and the scenery must be shed in a uniform manner to both sides of the face from above and downwards. Furthermore, lighting must provide the picture of the face with natural shades of the flesh. The ?red-eye effect? is not allowed.
- The picture of the individual from the shoulders up to the top of the head must cover 70-75% of the picture. In particular, the distance from the chin up to the top of the front must cover 50-60% of the photograph.
